sonic and python

Posted on Thursday 11 March 2010

  • I have a compaq presario with windows xp 256 meg of ram I am always being cut off the net. I keep my cache clean. I have tried four different dial up providers all seem to be the same. I cannot get dsl here. I am trying to delete unnecessary programs and have found sonic and Python they take up a lot of space can I zap either one of them? I am spy, virus and trojan free. If t hat is possible I run avg virus protection and fire wall. I also run adware and spybot weekly. I also run spyblaster.

  • How do I know about viruses. I have always thought Idid everything Kosher. But I have still lost one computer to Trojans and my Mom lost one to viruses I am going to scrap these two programs and see what happens . OK

  • norbon... I'm not sure about the nature of sonic and Python, from what you've provided, but disconnects aren't about the size of the programs you have loaded. A more likely solution would be to disable your firewall, which isn't needed on dial-up connections as much as on always-on connections like DSL and cable - unless, of course, cayz-ga is correct in that the Python you have is a virus. In that case, it could well be interfering. Let me know where this takes you... sublime1-ga

  • If you have a CD / DVD burner, Sonic is likely the TSR for the sonic burning software (check your Start / Programs list for a Sonic programs folder The Python is a little more troubling. Although it is a programming language, it is also a TSR virus. See http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_994.htm for more infotmation. Are you sure your are virus-free? It is an old virus, so it should be caught. Neither sonic nor python are standard WXP programs, so you should be able to kill them. However, I would also check your HD and registry for any occurrance of files by that name, rename them to sonic.old_exe or python.old_com (change the extension), and go from there. Hope this helps.

  • I have already lost one computer to trojans which CANNOT BE removed!!!!! I have switched to another computer for internet use. This new computer has these two programs on it what are they and may I remove them without damageZ?

  • If you can provide more specific information, such as precise names of the files you say you've found to be in use, it will be much easier to assist you. What program gives you an indication that these two programs are running? Can you use Task Manager to identify the precise filenames? sublime1-ga

  • Found on the HP (Compaq) site: http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/22226.html "This package contains the Sonic Drive Letter Access (DLA) Software for the listed notebook models and operating systems. The Sonic DLA software enables users to format CDs and DVDs for drive letter access, enabling them to use the optical media for drag-and-drop copying." This more likely explains the sonic process, I think. As to python - did you or any previous owner, do any programming?

  • Great Are YOU trying to tell me that with all of my skirts in the air screaming and AVG I still have a virus? This sucker checks every time i log on ?
