Issue with smb

Posted on Wednesday 17 March 2010

  • i am unable to connect to my comptuer via smb in xbmc. *i know the setting on xmbc are correct, my computer is configured for file sharing....it actually does allow me to connect when i restart my computer, but then kicks me out. *i am running windows xp media center edition w/ sp2, mcafee firewall, virus scan, and privacy service, but have tried to disable all of them, but still no luck. *windows firewall is disabled. *i am also running peer guardian, but have disabled this as well for testing. *i have checked permissions and everything looks good. *i am not a noob at this, but have ran out of things to try. *do you guys have any ideas?? *i have even checked the services running and made sure the correct ones are running for file sharing and secondary login. *i know it is an issue with my comptuer, but what? *thanks for the help!!
btw: *i have created a username and password specifically for my xbox, so i'm not using the guest account and permissions have been set accordingly.

  • any ideas?

  • i just installed sp2 and now my workgroup share is not working. i have 2 computers connected to a router. the one with sp1 connects to the xbox perfectly, the one with sp2 is not connecting anymore. i never had to edit the .xml before in order for this to work. i tried editing the .xml but it never seems to work. i am loged in as admin, took all passwords off and still no go. this has to be a problem with the new secutiry with sp2. i found some info in the forum but i did'nt find any user that has actually explained what the problem could have been.

  • i was having the same issue for quite a while. this does appear to be an issue with sp2. try to boot into safe mode(with networking support) and see how that runs. if smb works ok then it is most likely a problem with your computer and not the xbox.

i did a couple of things to fix(i say fix, but sometimes there are still issues, i think this has to do more with paplayer than my comp now..) the issue. i reset the tcp stack. then i removed my network card from device manager and reinstalled. finally i reset my shares. try it and see if it works for you.

tip!: reset tcp stack. from command prompt type "netsh int ip reset netlog.txt" <- do this from the root c:\.

good luck and let me know how this works out for you.
